Andrew James Weatherhead

After John Donne

When I felt closest to death
I went out for paper towels.
I took the stairs.

School children had been loose
for hours: they’d be loose
for years.

Traffic kept no one happy,
money kept changing hands.
No one was happy.

In aisle five, I felt missed –
It felt great.
Suddenly, paper towels

weren’t right
so I bought ten thousand
napkins instead.
